Are you interested in adopting a Persian cat? There are two types of the Persian breed. The first one is the Persian cat doll face and the second is the show-type Persian cat. Here, we will tell you facts you should know about the doll face Persian cat. After all, getting to know a cat breed before adopting them is always a good idea as it can help you to prepare. Alright, without further ado, let’s start.
The Original Persian Cat Breed?
The doll face Persian cat is considered to be the original Persian cat, according to the Traditional Cat Breed Association (or TCA for short). Unlike the show-type Persian, the doll face Persian has a normal-length nose, which is proportionate to its overall face and skull structure. Not only that, but the breed also possesses the distinctive Persian look, albeit not as extreme as their show-type counterpart.
Cat Fanciers’ Association (or CFA for short), on the other hand, has a differing opinion. CFA considers the show-type as the Persian breed standard. What is interesting is that the two Persian breeds look so different face-wise (the Persian cat doll face has a normal-length nose while the show-type has a short nose) but both are still in the Persian breed.
The Persian doll face breed comes in various coat and eye colors. Although the coat and eye color differ from one cat to another, they share some physical traits in common. For example, they are typically medium-sized cats with a short and stocky body, are 10 to 15 inches tall, and weighing between 7 and 12 pounds.
In terms of personality, the Persian cat doll’s face is sweet and quiet. This is not a cat breed that will jump around the house or pull the curtain. This is a cat breed that enjoys sitting on a lap. Don’t be mistaken, however. The doll face Persian cat is a loving cat, but they reserve their love only for people that they feel they can trust.
A doll face Persian cat likes a serene home and they don’t like loud environments. Their voice is soft and pleasant. Some even say their voice is musical. This breed doesn’t demand much from their owner. They need regular meals, a bit of playtime, and of course, lots and lots of love.
Purebred cat breeds in general don’t live as long as their crossbreed counterparts. This applies to the Persian cat doll face as well, as they are a purebred cat breed. The average lifespan of the doll face Persian cat is 12.5 years, which is the same as all other purebred cat breeds.
Unlike the show-type Persian, the doll face doesn’t have a short face. As such, they experience fewer respiratory problems. Although the doll face is considered to be the healthier breed of the two, it does have some health issues associated with it. These health issues are polycystic kidney disease, hairballs, urinary tract stones, hip dysplasia, and portosystemic shunts.
Doll Face Persian Cat Care
If you are looking forward to owning a Persian cat doll face, one of the first things you must know is that they are high maintenance breed. Why? First and foremost, they require daily grooming. You need to groom the Persian so their beautiful coat is clean and tangle-free. You need to gently comb and brush the cat on daily basis. As for bathing, a bath once a month is recommended.
As for food, you need to feed a doll face Persian cat with a high protein diet. Make sure that the protein comes from real meat sources. Before you purchase cat food, you should check the ingredients to make sure it contains protein and doesn’t contain artificial additives, fillers, or by-products.
The breed also likes their litter box clean. You need to clean it regularly. If you don’t, the cat will, more likely than not, stop using the litter box altogether. Of course, if you own a cat, that’s the last thing you want.
So, what do you think about the Persian cat doll face? Between the doll face and the show type, some consider the former is healthier than the latter. Both, however, are high maintenance cat breeds. If you are looking for a calm, quiet, and loving cat, the doll face Persian cat is the breed you want. Although they do require high maintenance, their looks and personality more than makeup for it.
