About Grumpy Cat

Let’s start our talk about Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub by getting to know Grumpy Cat first. So, who was Grumpy Cat? You probably have seen Grumpy Cat on the internet at some point. That’s right. That cat with the grumpy, disgruntled face. Grumpy Cat’s actual name is Tardar Sauce, and she was not as grumpy as she looks.

Was the Grumpy Cat really grumpy? Well, not exactly. As grumpy as she looks, Tardar Sauce was not grumpy all the time. On the contrary, despite her look, she was a regular cat 99% of the time, according to her owner. So yes, other than her grumpy face, she was a regular cat.

Tardar Sauce was born in a litter of four. She was born not only undersized but also with some abnormal features. Her grumpy face, which earned her the Grumpy Cat nickname, was a result of a certain form of dwarfism. When the brother of the owner of Tardar Sauce posted her picture on Reddit, the cat became an internet sensation.

After Grumpy Cat’s debut in 2012, she made a lot of media appearances. From TV programs, magazines, commercials, YouTube game show commercials. Because of her fame, her owner can quit her waitressing job at that time as the cute cat made lots of money from appearing places and modeling.

Sadly, Grumpy Cat died when she was only seven years old.  She died on May 14, 2019, following complications from a urinary tract infection. The death of Grumpy Cat was announced three days after, on May 17 on social media. Grumpy Cat’s death was mourned by many people around the world. Tributes were posted worldwide that day.

Our talk about Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub wouldn’t be complete if we don’t talk about the background story of Lil Bub. Just like Grumpy Cat, Lil Bub was an internet sensation. While Grumpy Cat was famous for her grumpy, disgruntled face, Lil Bub was famous for her silly face. Yes, she was the cat with her tongue out of her mouth.

Lil Bub was similar to Grumpy Cat. She was born with a form of feline dwarfism. As a result, her jaw and limbs are smaller than the rest of her body. This is what causes the silly-faced cat’s tongue to roll out of her mouth.

Lil Bub’s genetic mutation made it difficult for the cat to be adopted and get the care she needed. Fortunately, she did get adopted. Her owner said to her “Hey, Bub!” when he first picked her up. She made her debut on the internet in November 2011, when her owner posted her photos. Like Grumpy Cat, Lil Bub made a lot of media appearances, including a documentary titled “Lil Bub & Friendz”.

Lil Bub died when she was only eight years old, on December 1, 2019. The cute cat died in her sleep. According to Lil Bub’s owner, at the time of her death, she had been fighting a persistent and aggressive bone infection.

Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub certainly melt our health. These cats were not just cute, but they were lovely too. Unfortunately, the two cat celebrities have died. Grumpy Cat died when she was 7 while Lil Bub died when she was 8. Although these cherished cats have died, they continue to live in our hearts.
